Nativity chalk pictures (with a little inspiration from Vincent Van Gogh!)

Christmas is starting early in 4th Class! This week for our art lesson we created beautiful chalk pictures of the Nativity, taking inspiration from Van Gogh's 'Starry Night'. We found the stars quite hard to replicate, and it took a lot of practice on scrap paper to get them just right, but we were proud of the pictures we produced.

The Story of Energy Workshop

Today the girls in 4th class Ms Travers took part in the SEAI workshop 'The Story of Energy' in Dun Laoghaire Town Hall. We really enjoyed showing off all we know about renewable energy and how to save energy at home and at school and adding to our knowledge.

Do you know how to make a bulb light up using a potato? We do!!

We impressed the team so much that they had to ask us 6th class questions when we were playing our board game at the end!!

We want to say a big thank you to our super Mums who gave us lifts to Dun Laoghaire Town Hall. We really appreciate your help.

The water cycle

This week we have been learning all about the watercycle.

We made watercycles in a bag! We learned that during the water cycle no water is produced so we were careful to seal our bags up very tight so that no water could escape. We mixed blue food dye into the water. When the water evaporates in our bags the blue food dye is left behind and only the water evaporates. We talked about how this is similar to when the salt in salt water is left behind when the water evaporates.

We have noticed that there is more condensation in our bags when we come into school in the morning than later in the day. We have figured out why this is. Can you??

During our art lesson on Friday we made models of the water cycle in shoeboxes. It was more difficult than we thought it would be!! We had to use some lateral thinking to figure out how to attach the pipe cleaners. The straws and cotton wool weren't easy either!

Our trip to Croke Park

We really enjoyed our trip to Croke Park today. We were very proud to have a girl from our class playing on the team!

We're all going to have hoarse voices tomorrow after all the screaming we did!!
